Garden Notes: The Fallen

So yesterday, Friday, Rip steps out onto our porch/”gardenscape” and spots Snake (one of the local wandering cats) laying in our mustard seed pot (just to refresh your memory, it’s actually a 15 gallon tote), and Pib (our cat—P.I.B. stands for “Puss-In-Boots” because his white paws contrast with his orange coat) laying in the lettuce.

He promptly pushed Pib out and nudged Snake away as well. Pib ended up knocking over the Summer Savory on his way out of his “bed”, and that’s the point of this note.

So, Rip made a “Punji” garden, using bamboo skewers shoved into the dirt of the lettuce, pointy-side up. Hopefully, the cats will stay out of the lettuce.

Today, Rip re-planted Summer Savory, on the assumption that whatever we had won’t germinate, as well as the carrots, because after nearly two weeks they’re not germinating. Those seeds were old, there’s no guarantee they will ever amount to anything, but we shall see!
